BACKGROUND & HISTORY OF BUSINESS AND FOUNDER

Debt Resolve was established in 2009 by Catherina Fransina Coetzee (maiden surname van Rooyen), also known as Karen. Debt Resolve was born from a need to assist over in-debted consumers (literate and illiterate) because of the complexity of financial agreements, designed and written in such a way that it became difficult for consumers to understand the costs, risk and obligations under certain agreements as prescribed by the National Credit Act 34 of 2005.

Karen is well known in the finance industry and legal profession. She started her career in the finance industry in 1980 with ABSA Vehicle and Asset Finance and moved to Standard Bank Vehicle and Asset Finance as a Business Development Manager in 1983. She assisted Consumers and Corporate companies in the arranging suitable financial packages designed to be in line with cash flow protections. Financing ranged from vehicles to the financing and importation of production equipment.

Karen resigned in 1998 and joined Axial Specialised Finance (Pty) Ltd where she managed the Western Cape Regional Office. With Axial she was the main negotiator of “Off-Balance Sheet” agreements with corporate companies like Sanlam. She not only negotiated mutually beneficial finance structures for both Axial and their clients but designed agreements to satisfy the need of prospective client.

Karen has empathy with consumers and due to her sympathetic nature, she resigned from Axial Specialised Finance in 2006 to explore the bond industry vs. the debt counselling industry. In 2009 she qualified herself as a Debt Counsellor, duly registered with the National Credit Regulator.

From inception date, Debt Resolve has had a squeaky clean audit trail with the National Credit Regulator which proves her commitment towards assisting the National Credit Regulator in building a more transparent finance industry and assisting over in-debted consumers.
